HELP FOR HAITI

We encourage your support of relief efforts

in the aftermath of the catastrophic earthquake

in Haiti.

In addition to the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, many of us have read of, and would like to support, the humanitarian work of Partners in Health (PIH), founded by Dr. Paul Farmer ('Mountains Beyond Mountains').

Please click on the link above any of these organizations to offer support.

(This is for information only and not an AAUW-sponsored recommendation.)

AAUW Oakland-Piedmont
Announces the First
Annual SISTER to SISTER SUMMIT
Saturday, May 15, 2010
8:30am-4:30pm

Why a Girls' Summit?
•    It is important for us to figure out and tell others what's important to us and why.

    •  When others have to guess about our issues, they sometimes come up with the wrong solutions.
•   We have voices and the right to be heard.
         • We have the responsibility to let others know what's working and what isn't.
• The more we talk about our issues, the better we'll be at speaking out and the more we'll be heard.
    • The more we are heard, the better the solutions. The better the solutions, the better our lives will be.

Be one of the special teens who will let their voice be heard.
Join 50 other girls at the Sister-to-Sister Summit on May 15, 2010.
Girls of all races, ethnicities, national origins, religions, and abilities will come together to talk about what is really on their minds.

Space is limited. Sign up now.

If you are a high school girl and interested in becoming a faciliator for the Sister to Sister Summit, please f ill out the application, questionnaire and permission slip; submit by February 15, 2010.

                                           What We'll Do:

Trained High School Girls will lead each session as we

—Talk about the challenges we face in small “chat room” meetings focusing on

            •   Shaping your body image, making choices and taking responsibility for your body

             •   Living safe and strong, recognizing and avoiding dating violence

              •     Building a life free of harassment, full of opportunity

—Develop a plan to address these challenges with the support of our school and community.

—Begin to build a network among women and girls.

All during a very fun day filled with music,

                                  dance, food, and inspiration!
